The Purse Game

I finally jumped on the ban wagon.

I ordered me some little purses to play the purse game and get bookings at the party. I talked to so many directors while on the Leadership Incentive Trip that have wild success with these little purses (shout out to SED Melissa Fietsam!). I mean, some said that it's not uncommon for EVERY guest at a party to book. I actually don't know why I avoided it for so long!

This week while I scrambled to book my October to match my goals I had an ah-ha moment, "If I could get more bookings AT the parties then I could spend less of my time at home making booking calls and coming up with cutesy incentives to fill my calendar."

Now, I tweaked it a little to fit my comfort zone so that I could be super confident while playing the game.

I ordered 20 purses from www.expressyourselfonline.com They we're only $1.75 a pop!

Inside each purse is a folded up piece of paper with a prize written on it:
1- Grand Prize
4- $10 in extra hostess credit at your party
5- FREE Key Fob
5- Pick a Prize from the basket
5- FREE embroidery on 1 item

At a crucial time in the party I pass around a Creative Caddy filled with these purses and have each guest pick a purse, "Don't open it yet! We're going to play a game, I'll explain in a second."

After every guest has a purse I explain, "Does everyone have a purse? Okay, inside each purse is a prize. Go ahead give it a little shake." (Everyone gives their purse a little jiggle and listens to something moving around inside)

"Here's how this works, if you have 5 or more items on your wish list I really recommend you book your own Thirty-One party and get some of those for FREE! If you pick a date for your party today, it doesn't matter how far into the next year you pick you just have to pick the date today, then not only do you get to keep your purse but you also win the prize inside. Some of those prizes say "Free key fob" some say "Free embroidery on 1 item" and there's some other little prizes too, but ONE says "Grand Prize" and tonight the grand prize is a Large Utility Tote!" (I hold up a large utility tote that I snagged with hostess rewards)

I then go to the most energetic women in the room and ask her, "Would you like to play or pass?" If she plays, that means she's booking a party and seeing what's inside her purse, if she passes then I put her purse back in the Creative Caddy.

WHEN during my presentation that I play this game I feel is crucial. Here's the "order of operations" of a Party With Carly:

Guest introduction: Tell me your name, how you know the hostess, and describe her with 1 positive word
My Introduction: My name & title, my story, and my WHY
Prize Drawing: "Who's been to a Thirty-One party before? Who knows that Thirty-One is all about Celebrating, Encouraging, and Rewarding women? Right now I want to celebrate all of YOU with a little prize drawing!"
Product demonstration: I have each guest pick a product from my display and tell me why they picked it and what they would use it for.
Catalog explanation: I show them the wishlist (instead of order form) and explain. Then I walk them through the catalog starting with the back. Starter kit, hostess rewards, embroidery, gives, shopping guide, products in use.
Shopping: Now that I've walked them through the catalog they are starting to browse and shop. Probably they're asking questions. Definitely their writing some things down on their wishlist.
Booking game: Purse game.
Check out and mingle

Why do I play it at the end? couple reasons. I drop booking seed through out my party.

1-In my story when I say "My favorite part of my job is that moment after a party when I get to tell the hostess how much FREE credit she's getting"

2-During the product demonstration when I have them turn to my booking calendar in their guest packet

3-When I explain the catalog and highlight the hostess rewards page.

Then they start browsing the catalog and write down a wishlist of all the items they want. THAT'S when I push them over the edge with a booking games.

If playing a booking game makes you uncomfortable you need to focus on what hosting a party does for HER not what it does for you! Remember, this is NOT something you're doing to "trick" her into having a party against her will. This is something you're doing to find the girls who are thinking, "Maybe I'll have  a party someday." and turn them into girls who pick a date today.

Now, let Logan and I demonstrate the purse game for you ;)
So what do you think? What fun spin will you put on the purse game to fit your business?
